Markbase vs your own setup: Build your own software factory, or start with Markbase?
Many teams start their software factory with what they already have: an AGENTS.md or CLAUDE.md file in the repository, a folder of skills and a few scripts that run an agent on a schedule. That works well at first. Markbase is for the point where keeping it working starts to take real time.
Gives every agent the same version
Claude Code reads CLAUDE.md, Codex reads AGENTS.md, Cursor reads its rules, and each agent loads skills from its own folder. To keep them in step, someone copies changes from one to the others, and sooner or later the copies drift apart. In Markbase the team keeps one set of skills and knowledge, and every agent gets the same version.
Records what agents learn
Instruction files describe how the team works, but not what happened last week. The cause of a bug, or the reason a design changed, usually stays in one developer's agent session. Markbase gives agents a shared place to write it down, so the next task starts from it, whoever picks it up.
Takes the plumbing off your hands
To start an agent from a mention, an alert, an email or a webhook, you need a receiver, prompts, somewhere for the agent to run and a way to retry, and then someone has to look after all of it. Markbase provides that. You write the prompt for each kind of event, and the agent runs on your own machines.

Where your own setup is the better choice
If you work alone or with one other person, use one agent and rarely automate anything, files in your repository are enough. They cost nothing and they change with your code. Some teams also want full control over every part of their setup and have the time to look after it.
